Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg High Schools’ girls bowling teams captured second and third place following the Illinois High School Association’s state bowling finals in Rockford Feb. 16-17.
Hoffman Estates took second place with a team average of 194.9 and finished just 419 pins behind state champion Harlem High School. Senior Alexis Orwat finished 4th overall with a series average of 212.3
The Township High School District 211 Foundation currently has more than 40 scholarships available to graduating seniors. These scholarships total nearly $64,000 available to assist graduates in their college endeavors.
“College is a large expense for families and we have many generous donors that are passionate about giving back to the community and honoring loved ones through scholarships,” said foundation member Kris Bratkiv.
When Sarah Wille, a 2014 graduate of Hoffman Estates High School was a small child, her grandmother gave her a bowling ball. More than 100 students representing every school throughout Township High School District 211 competed in Code 211, the district’s first ever hackathon, hosted at Palatine High School, Jan. 19-20. The event was filled with workshops and contests as students displayed a variety of coding abilities.

Students, Staff and guests presented a variety of original or published poetic works during the 2nd annual Poetry Power at the Hoffman Estates High School library Dec. 7.
Terry Loncaric, a published poet and teaching assistant at Hoffman Estates High School, created the event as a labor of love. She said she created the event to show students poetry can be grass-roots.

Nearly 200 students from Hoffman Estates and Palatine High Schools had the unique opportunity to see the hit musical Hamilton at the CIBC Theater in Chicago thanks to a grant from the Gilder Leherman Institute of American History.
As part of the grant application social studies students from the schools had to create a presentation on historic individuals from early American history, using primary sources as part of their research.
