D211 Students Report Earned Scholarship Opportunities

As another school year comes to an end, most District 211 graduates are gearing up for the next step in their academic careers. Hoops for Hope Proceeds Presented to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Hoops for Hope Presentation
As a result of the Hoops for Hope event hosted by Fremd and Palatine High Schools, students presented the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with a check for $2,600 raised by the event at the beginning of the year. The presentation was held at PHS on May 24. The Hoops for Hope event was created in the memory of Brian Larsen, a FHS student and Palatine native who passed away on Nov. 21, 2011 from Cystic Fibrosis. High School District 211 has 20 students that were awarded prestigious National Merit Scholarships for their outstanding academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Scholarships are based off of corporate-sponsored awards financed by roughly 200 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations. To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, semifinalists had to fulfill requirements to advance to finalist standing, including high test scores on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, or PSAT. The annual U.S. News and World Report “Best High Schools” ranking was recently released, and three District 211 schools made the list at both the state and national level. James B. Conant High School was ranked at No. 35 in the state and No. 848 nationally, William Fremd High School was No. 40 in the state and No. 922 nationally, and Palatine High School was No. 50 and No. 1,340 nationally.
