D211 Post: Crosstown Volleyball Rivals to Battle for Cancer Charity

On October 4th crosstown rivals Palatine High School and William Fremd High School Volleyball teams will meet at PHS to compete in the Match for Maeve.  The match will raise money for the Maeve McNicholas Memorial Foundation which is named for Maeve McNicholas who died at 2 years old only 36 hours after being diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Maeve McNicholas died 36 hours after her cancer diagnosis.

During the match the Palatine Pirates will be wearing gray jerseys in support of pediatric brain tumor research while the Fremd Vikings will wear green which is one of the foundation’s colors.

Palatine High School Sophomore Girls Volleyball Coach and Fremd Alumna Kelly Doherty said the proceeds from the event will be donated to help assist programs which help increase awareness about the severity and prevalence of childhood brain tumors, aid in early detection, aid in research, and support families of childhood cancer patients.

During the tournament Palatine and Fremd will team up to host a bake sale.  They will also hold a “chuck a duck” contest where participants can purchase rubber ducks for $1 which they can attempt to hit a bullseye placed on the floor.  Attendees can also purchase 50/50 raffle tickets.

Gameplay begins with Freshman A, B, and JV games at 5:00 p.m. and Sophomore and Varsity games at 6:00 p.m.  Admission for the evening is $2 for adults while students are free.  For more information visit the foundation’s website at www.maevesfoundation.org.
