District 211 to Host Parent Open Houses on September 1
William Fremd, James B. Conant, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, and Schaumburg High Schools will hold Parent Open Houses on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016. Parents are invited to follow shortened versions of their child’s schedule (10- to 14- minute segments) as well as take part in other special activities and events. The District’s two alternative schools, District 211 North Campus and Higgins Education Center, also will host open houses on September 1.
Conant High School’s (700 E. Cougar Trail in Hoffman Estates) Open House runs from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Highlights include a chance for parents to walk their child’s schedule and meet with teachers. Each teacher will provide an overview of their course and discuss their expectations. The Booster Club will provide information and treats during non-academic periods. It is a great way to see Conant High School from a student’s perspective.
Fremd High School’s (1000 S. Quentin Road in Palatine) Open House will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Teachers will share class expectations and curricular materials with parents. Members of VAMP (Viking Advisory Mentoring Program), the Vikettes, Student Council, National Honor Society, the Fremd Speech team, and Fremd cheerleading squads will serve as guides to assist parents in locating classrooms and answering questions. Featured in front of the main entrance will be the Fremd Marching Band. In the media center, the Fremd Symphony will perform while parents visit with counselors. Parents are encouraged to stop by the English Department Book Fair located in Room 118, sign up as a member of the Fremd Booster Club in the main hallway, or visit the athletic and activity fair taking place in the student cafeteria.
Hoffman Estates High School’s (1100 W. Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates) Parent Open House will take place from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Parents will have an opportunity to meet their child’s teachers, receive a brief overview of course curriculum, and learn about student expectations and how parents can help at home. Language translators will be available throughout the evening for those needing assistance.
Open House at Palatine High School (1111 N. Rohlwing Road in Palatine) will be from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m., and provides a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teachers. For those wishing to arrive early, the PHS marching band will play outside the main entrance prior to the start of Open House (weather permitting), beginning at 6:30 p.m. Topics teachers will discuss include: course objectives, class expectations, and curricular materials. Teachers also will encourage questions and provide insight into how parents can assist their child at home. Members of the PHS spirit squads will serve as student guides, refreshments will be served in the student cafeteria, and Pirate Booster Club members will be on hand selling school spirit merchandise. Additionally, childcare services will be available throughout the evening.
Schaumburg High School’s (1100 W. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg) Open House runs from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Student Ambassadors, Cheerleaders, Flags, and Pom-Pon squads will assist parents in finding classrooms. Topics that teachers will be prepared to discuss with parents include course objectives, class expectations, student achievement, curricular materials, and how parents can help their children at home. Parent questions also are welcome. V.I.P. booster club members will be taking memberships and selling school merchandise in the main hallway, while Band Boosters and the Schaumburg Township Library will have informational tables in the school cafeteria. The newly remodeled Media Center will be open for viewing, refreshments, and information. Orchestra students will be performing in the Media Center and cafeteria, where refreshments will be served throughout the evening.
The newly renamed District 211 North Campus (335 E. Illinois Avenue in Palatine) facility’s Open House will be from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Parents will be able to tour the facility, discuss program expectations, and ask questions of teachers and the program administrator. Within classrooms, teachers will review student progress and highlight student work. Staff will be available to supervise young children to allow parents to meet with teachers. Dinner will be served along with a parent presentation.
The Higgins Education Center (1030 W. Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates) will host its Open House from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Visitors will be able to tour the facility, meet the program administrator and teachers, and discuss the programs. Staff will be on hand from all three programs: Academy-South, Adult Transition Program-South, and New Endeavors. Parents will follow their child’s schedule and learn about program expectations and instructional material. A presentation will be made to address incentive and behavior management systems used by each program. Refreshments will be served.
