National Honor Society (NHS) students at Fremd High School helped grant wishes to local children to make the holiday season one to remember.

In December, 250 juniors and seniors in NHS participated in the annual Grant-A-Wish event that helps purchase, wrap, organize, transport, and deliver gifts for 370 kids in both the Palatine community and the city of Chicago.

“The event means a lot to our students,” said Jaclyn Han, English teacher and counselor at Fremd High School. “Seeing the faces of the kids receiving holiday cheer was really something our students loved.”

Juniors prepared wishes for the Angel Tree Program in Palatine. Seniors visited kids at It Takes a Village Day Care Center in Chicago, and the children shouted with excitement about FHS students visiting by calling them “Santas” The students also enjoyed some time reading and playing with the children.

All children eight years old and under received winter items, such as hats and gloves, in addition to their gift. Han said this was a collaborative effort within the FHS community, and a number of staff members sponsored gifts. Additionally, Zippy Shell Portable Storage and Moving donated a storage unit to help make this event possible.
