As the holidays quickly approach, Fremd High School is looking to do its part in helping individuals in need.

Students and staff at Fremd are participating in the Annual Palatine Food Pantry Cereal Drive, which is a school-wide initiative to collect cereal boxes for the Palatine Food Pantry. The drive, which is sponsored by VAMP (Viking Advisory & Mentoring Program), started on Oct. 29, and will continue through Nov. 15. Cereal boxes can be dropped off in the school cafeteria.

“The recent economic downturn across the United States and here in Illinois has had a devastating impact on many families,” said Chad Jonas, dean of students and sponsor of VAMP. “Some of those families have students here at Fremd High School.”

The local food pantry provides frozen and non-perishable foods to approximately 325 families within Palatine Township boundaries each month. The goal for FHS is to collect more than 1,000 cereal boxes for the community.
