Timothy Heyse has been named varsity head football coach at Hoffman Estates High School, effective with the 2017 season.  Heyse, who is currently an assistant coach, will replace Mike Donatucci at the helm of the Hawks’ football program.  Donatucci is retiring after four seasons as the Hawks head coach, and leading the program to its first post-season appearance in 22 years.

A physical education teacher at Hoffman Estates High School since 2001, Heyse is in his third stint as the Hawks’ varsity offensive coordinator, having served in that capacity since 2013, and has coached the team’s quarterbacks since 2002.  Previously, he was varsity offensive coordinator (2005-2006 and 2011), varsity special teams coordinator (2007-2008), and varsity secondary coach (2002-2006).  Heyse also was the school’s head sophomore football coach (2008-2010) and began his coaching career as an assistant freshman football coach (2001).

“Coach Heyse has distinguished himself because of his love for our school and connections he has made with our students,” said Hoffman Estates High School Principal Josh Schumacher.  “Tim’s skill as a coach and understanding of the game is matched by his even greater level of personal integrity. Tim has played a major role in the growth of our football program, both as a coach on the field and as a teacher in the classroom.  We believe he is uniquely positioned to continue our current momentum as well as develop the perseverance and commitment that make our student-athletes successful both on and off the field.”

In addition to coaching football, Heyse also has coached basketball (assistant freshman coach 2001-2002) and baseball (varsity assistant coach 2010-2011; head sophomore coach 2009-2010; head freshman A coach 2003-2009 and 2012-2016; head freshman B coach 2002; assistant freshman coach 2001) at Hoffman Estates High School.

“For the past 15-plus years,” added Hoffman Estates High School Athletic Director Steve Lacni, “Coach Heyse has provided a positive spark for the Hoffman Estates High School family, both in the athletic arena and in the classroom.  He brings a level of enthusiasm to his coaching and teaching that is matched by few.  Coach Heyse is a true testament of what being is Hawk is all about.  His grit, determination, and commitment are guiding examples to our students.  He will continue to teach these values to our student-athletes as he leads our football program to future success.  I am excited for him to be our next head football coach at Hoffman Estates High School.”

Heyse earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Western Illinois University in 2001, and his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Ill.) in 2004.  In addition to his regular teaching responsibilities, he has coordinated and organized the curriculum for the HEHS physical education “Strides” program, as well as taught an athletic weight training class.
