An upcoming event will be a tasty, aromatic, and informative way for those who are 21 years of age and up to raise funds for the ICompete program, which benefits underserved youth in the Palatine community.

A wine tasting fundraiser will take place at The Wine Cellar, 361 W. Northwest Highway, from 6 until 8 p.m. on Jan. 17. All proceeds from the event and 10 percent of the store’s sales will be donated to ICompete’s youth programs. Palatine High School is one of five ICompete partners, and many volunteers for the program are students.

The iCompete program is to introduce underserved families in Palatine to athletics, arts, and academics by breaking down the barriers of access to better prepare for life experiences. Tickets are $20 per person for tastings and appetizers. The event, which is only for those 21 and older, will also include raffle prizes and a 50/50 raffle.

Palatine High School is in a collaborative partnership with the Palatine Park District, Palatine Opportunity Center, District 15, and Buehler YMCA. Each partner provides a different part in the development, implementation, funding, and support of each program. ICompete programs include the after school club, summer athletic clinics, special events, swim program, teen nights, summer camp, the Pirate Passport program, and more.
