The Palatine High School Orchestra will participate in the Augustana College Symphony Orchestra’s first tour when the college ensemble visits Messiah Lutheran Church (25225 W Ivanhoe Rd) in Wauconda, Illinois, Nov. 3.

PHS Orchestra Director Dung Pham said this will be a very exciting opportunity for her students.  She said the students will participate in a clinic with Dr. Daniel Chetel, Assistant Professor of Music at Augustana.

“The opportunity to work with high school students is very exciting,” said Chetel.  “It allows us to offer an outside perspective on the music they’re working on and give them the experience of working with a collegiate ensemble.”

“We had the opportunity to do a brief clinic with him here once before,” said Pham, an Augustana  alumna.  “During that short class, he really got the students to think about the music.  I am looking forward to seeing what he does with more time.”

Students from the Palatine Orchestra will also have to opportunity to watch a clinic which will be conducted with Lake Zurich High School, Pham said.

“Being able to watch the other school’s clinic will give the students an opportunity to see things they might miss during our clinic,” she said.

Both high schools will perform a concert with the Augustana Symphony Orchestra at 7 p.m. that evening at the Messiah Lutheran Church.  Pham said Palatine will perform movements from Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony.
