Fremd High School Bands Successful at North Shore Jazz Festival

The Fremd High School Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band recently performed at the 38th Annual North Shore Jazz Festival. The festival took place at Glenbrook South High School on Jan. 24. The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Matt Moore, was awarded straight “Division 1/Superior” rating by three collegiate judges in the top band division. The Jazz Lab Band, directed by Jeremy Figlewicz and Sam Simpson, also earned a “Division 1/Superior” rating in the second band division. Fremd High School Band Performs in Alamo Bowl Halftime Performance

Ninety band students from Fremd High School headed to San Antonio during winter break to perform in the Alamo Bowl halftime performance. The band performed during halftime with 12 other high schools from across the country during a five-day trip starting on Dec. 30. “It was an incredible performance opportunity,” said Matthew Moore, band director at Fremd High School. Moore said the trip was educationally rewarding for students and also provided many memorable performance opportunities. Fremd Band Program Hosted Second Annual Holiday Canned Food Drive

In conjunction with its two Winter Band Concerts, the Fremd Band program hosted its second annual “Holiday Canned Food Drive” on Dec. 16.  Fremd Band families donated non-perishable food items for “admission” to the concerts.  Approximately two hundred food items were donated to the Palatine Township Food Pantry for needy families.

Schaumburg High School Band Presents Upcoming Awards Concert

The Schaumburg High School Music Department will present its annual Band Awards Concert on May 19. The concert will be held in the school’s main gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. The evening will feature performances by the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Cadet Band. Three senior students Robert Bach, Kyle Picchi and Corey Loft will be featured while performing the snare drum solos for "Field Ayres" by Douglas Richard. Schaumburg High School’s Upcoming ‘Band-Aid Concerts’ to Benefit Epilepsy Foundation

Students in Schaumburg High School’s band programs are dedicating a performance series to raise funds for a cause. The Schaumburg High School Band will present its annual series of Band-Aid Concerts, taking place March 17 and 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Weimer Auditorium. The Cadet and Concert Bands will perform the first night with the Symphonic Band, and with Wind Symphony the second night. In addition, guest conductor Tom Beckwith will be featured with all four bands. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds will benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago. Palatine High School Band Featured on Music Education Magazine

During band camp at Palatine High School, a photographer from the music education magazine The Instrumentalistvisited the students and took some pictures of the band. Palatine High School has learned that the band was selected for the cover image of the September 2013 issue. The featured student is Cora Jacobsen, a current band sophomore.  Each day during camp the band had a theme, and the theme for that day was Hawaiian.

Booking with the Hawks Program Gets Elementary Students Excited to Read

To help excite elementary students about reading, high school students at Hoffman Estates High School traveled to seven local elementary schools to put on assemblies about their reading program. Joining the Hawk mascot, members of the HEHS girls’ and boys’ basketball teams, pom poms, cheerleaders, and band traveled to the schools to tell elementary students a story about reading and share information about their winter reading program.
