D211 Post: PHS Holds 7th Annual Empty Bowl Charity Event

    Students from Palatine High School’s Chemistry of Foods and 3-D Design classes combined to hold the school’s 7th annual Empty Bowl Charity Event.  The event is based on a project started by Michigan teachers Lisa Blackburn and John Hartom in the early 1990s, and raises money for the Palatine Food Bank.     During the event, students in the Chemistry of Foods class prepare a variety of soups, breads, and small deserts. Retired Hoffman Estates High School special education teacher Tom McNamara said he always felt the generosity of others, whether it came from his District 211 family, community, or friends. Students in District 211 Spearhead Donation Efforts for Illinois Tornado Victims

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, students in District 211 recognize they have a lot to be thankful for. While many student organizations generally start fundraising and charity efforts during the holidays to benefit their communities, recent events have led to a focus outside of District 211. Fundraising and charity efforts from all over the District will benefit victims of the tornado that devastated the Washington, Ill., community on Nov. 17. The 4th Annual Fremd Cereal Drive is Underway

Fremd High School students, staff, and community members are participating in an annual Cereal Drive to support the local Palatine Township Food Pantry. The Fourth Annual Cereal Drive started on Nov. 11 and will run through Nov. 26. The event was originally started by the Viking Advisory and Mentoring Program (VAMP), and has grown to include participation from the entire school. Schaumburg High School Charity Soup Event Provides Tasty Way to Give Back to Community

Each year, Schaumburg High School’s Chemistry of Foods classroom is transformed into a charitable restaurant that serves hearty homemade soups for a cause. Students, staff, and some community members attended the ninth annual Chemistry of Foods and Cool Beans Soup Charity Event on Nov. 30. All donations benefited the Elgin Community Crisis Center and the SHS Magic Closet. Fremd High School Music Students Participate in T-Shirt Charity for the Arts

Music students at Fremd High School recently found a way to give back to the community and show their support for the arts. Members of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, as well as other music students, purchased nearly 100 ArtsFest t-shirts to support a nonprofit charity called A.R.T.S. (Arts Refreshing The Soul). A.R.T.S.’ mission is to use educational creative arts programs in partnership with community social service agencies to dedicate itself to promoting the well-being of women and children in need who are recovering from domestic abuse, poverty, and homelessness.
