Cougars Announce New Head Boys Basketball Coach

Jim Maley has been named head boys basketball coach at James B. Conant High School, effective with the 2017-2018 season.  Maley takes over the program from long-time head coach Tom McCormack, who is retiring after 33 years as head coach, 32 years at Conant High School.  McCormack has a 576-342 (.627 winning pct.) all-time record, including 13 seasons with 20-plus wins, and his teams have made two “Elite 8” appearances, and have five Mid-Suburban League titles. “In looking for a new coach, we knew we had very big shoes to fill,” said Conant High School Principal Julie Nowak.  “Coach Maley brings a ...

Four CHS Students Sell Coffee for a Cause

Sophomores Nikita Basu, Aparna Ayyah, Archisha Ghosh, and Rithi Bramananthan are spending select mornings selling coffee and hot chocolate to students and staff to raise money for individuals affected by Hurricane Matthew in 2016. “Sadly, people tend to forget about natural disasters within a week or two after they happen,” said Aparna. “For the people who are living through it they suffer the after effects for years. Registration Open for 2017 GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science) Conference

Registration is now open for the seventh-annual GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science) Conference. The conference will be held at Conant High School on Feb. 4, 2017, for 5th and 6th grade girls and their parents in School Districts 15 and 54, and private schools within the District 211 attendance area.  The event will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Girls will learn about careers in engineering, math, and science by actively participating in hands-on sessions. Many District 211 students took advantage of last night's extended media center hours to study for finals. As a reminder, all District 211 schools will have extended media center hours to provide students with a quiet space to study for finals. Read below to find out what each school is doing for its extended hours this week. PHS: Students at Palatine High School will be able to study in the library during normal hours from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students can then study in the library and café until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
