Conant High School Students Celebrate Life of Cafeteria Staffer Sandi Smith

When students at Conant High School entered the cafeteria for lunch, many looked forward to something more than socializing and satisfying their hunger.  For some, the highlight of their lunch experience rarely had to do with food - it was the person they could always find working the blue snack cart. Cafeteria staff member Sandi Smith, who worked and interacted with students from behind her blue cafeteria cart for 12 years, passed away on March 17. Conant High School Movie Night to Benefit Continued Hurricane Relief Efforts

Conant High School’s student organization H.E.R.O.E.S (Helping Everyone Respect Others and Expect Safety) is hosting a movie night to benefit hurricane Sandy victims from the town of Highlands, N.J., on Jan. 24. The family film Because of Winn-Dixie will be shown, and all ticket and concession proceeds will go directly to the Highlands community. The event is open to the public and doors open at 6 p.m. in the Conant High School cafeteria. The movie will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, and $2 for students and seniors. Conant High School Graduate Evan Barr Earns State AP Scholar Award

A recent Conant High School graduate earned himself top honors in the State of Illinois for his involvement and achievements in Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Evan Barr, a 2012 CHS graduate, received the Scholar with Distinction, State AP Scholar, and National AP Scholar award from the College Board, which is a national not-for-profit organization that promotes equity in education by providing scholarship and financial opportunities for students in grades K-12. In an effort to remind individuals to drive responsibly and the dangers of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated, three District 211 schools recently hosted a music and dance festival to raise funds toward Operation Snowball groups. For students at James B. Conant High School, learning about the original pioneers of Schaumburg Township in the 1880s became an interactive experience at several original farm sites. District 211 Students Build Leadership Skills at Harper Hosted Conference

Several District 211 students had the opportunity to explore and enhance their leadership skills not only with other peers in the District, but with students from other area school districts, as well. The Student Leadership Challenge Experience, which was a one-day leadership program hosted at William Rainey Harper College, took place on Oct. 18. Conant High School Boosters Club Gears Up for Annual Craft Fair

More than 200 crafters are scheduled to participate in the Conant High School Booster Club’s 33rd Annual Craft Fair on Oct. 20. There is a $1 admission charge, which will support the Booster Club scholarships for students and special grants. In addition, a raffle will be held to benefit the Booster Club's post-prom activity that provides a safe alcohol- and drug-free event for CHS students.
