PHS, CHS Students Win Big at District 211 Business Incubator Pitch Night

Students in High School District 211’s Business Incubator program spent the school year developing business ideas to try to bring them to life with the help of investors. Six of the best teams from each school’s Business Incubator course were selected to compete at the District Pitch Night for real funding this past May. After planning and preparation, each team presented their business idea to a panel of judges in hopes of being awarded $20,000 in seed money from the District 211 Foundation. Two District 211 Students Earn Perfect Score on ACT

At its Feb. 16, 2017 meeting, the Board of Education honored two High School District 211 students for achieving a 36, the highest possible composite score, on the ACT exam. Fremd High School student Kevin Chen and Palatine High School student Sarah Gonwa earned perfect scores on the ACT. Both students said they were surprised to learn of earning a perfect score. “I was really surprised when I learned I got a 36 on the test,” Kevin said. “I was really expecting to have to take it again.” Sarah said that she took the ACT through school but needed to take the exam that included the writing portion. Fremd High School Bands Perform at Illinois Music Education Conference, Earn Top Ratings at Northshore Jazz Festival

Students in Fremd High School’s band program were selected to perform at the Illinois Music Educators Association’s (IMEA) Illinois Music Education Conference (IMEC), as well as recently achieved success at the Northshore Jazz Festival. The Jazz Ensemble and Symphony Strings Orchestra performed at a conference in Peoria. There are four different performance categories including band, orchestra, jazz, and choir. Groups submit a blind audition, which means there is no identifying information about the group, and IMEA selects performers. FHS Students ‘Grant Wishes’ to Local Children During the Holidays

National Honor Society (NHS) students at Fremd High School helped grant wishes to local children to make the holiday season one to remember. In December, 250 juniors and seniors in NHS participated in the annual Grant-A-Wish event that helps purchase, wrap, organize, transport, and deliver gifts for 370 kids in both the Palatine community and the city of Chicago. “The event means a lot to our students,” said Jaclyn Han, English teacher and counselor at Fremd High School. “Seeing the faces of the kids receiving holiday cheer was really something our students loved.” Juniors prepared wishes for the Angel Tree Program in Palatine. ...
