Hoffman Estates Loyal Partners Collecting HEHS Coat Drive Donations

Hoffman Estates Loyal Partners (H.E.L.P.) is hosting a coat drive to benefit the Hoffman Estates larger community. H.E.L.P. is interested in collecting new and gently used coats, scarves, and gloves in sizes ranging from toddler to adult. Individuals can donate to the coat drive until January 31, 2017. Ever since she could remember, Palatine High School Senior Vivian Liu wanted to learn more about engineering. Her father, an electrical engineer, would come home and continue working on complex projects as she watched. Once she was old enough, he started to teach her about his work and by her sophomore year of high school, Vivian found herself delving into coursework that fulfilled her personal interests in engineering. HEHS Hawks Announce New Head Football Coach

Timothy Heyse has been named varsity head football coach at Hoffman Estates High School, effective with the 2017 season.  Heyse, who is currently an assistant coach, will replace Mike Donatucci at the helm of the Hawks’ football program.  Donatucci is retiring after four seasons as the Hawks head coach, and leading the program to its first post-season appearance in 22 years. District 211 Students Attend 2016 Harper College Latino Summit

District 211 students from Hoffman Estates, Palatine, and Schaumburg High Schools recently joined several students from area school districts for the 2016 Latino Summit. There, students had opportunities to hear from Latino professionals, explore college opportunities, and listen to a keynote speaker. The 2016 Latino Summit was held on Nov. 18 at William Rainey Harper College and more than 500 Latino freshmen and sophomores from 17 area schools attended. District 211 Students Honored Veterans on Veterans Day

Schools in District 211 honored and recognized Veterans Day in many unique ways. Celebrations ranged from assemblies, to musical performances, letter writing, hallway decorations and giving thanks to local veterans. At Fremd High School, everyone was encouraged to participate in a Veterans Week Fundraising Competition the week of Nov. 7 – Nov. 11. Second period classes competed to raise the most money for the Soldier Project – Chicago Chapter, an organization aimed at healing the hidden wounds of combat and aiding soldiers in their return to civilian life. HEHS Students Participate in Mock Presidential Debates

Hoffman Estates High School Social Studies Department conducted eight presidential debates on Nov. 2 and 3 to highlight and educate students on the issues facing the nation. Over 100 students participated in the debates with more than 1,000 in the audience. Covering topics that ranged from foreign policy to immigration to the economy students were both educated on the issues and engaged in the democratic process. HEHS Student Recently Named National Hispanic Scholar by College Board

Hoffman Estates High School senior Alfonso Arellano was recently named a National Hispanic Scholar as part of the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program. He was recognized by the Board of Education at its Oct. 20, 2016 meeting. Each year, 5,000 of the 250,000 Hispanic and Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT tests are recognized. Students who take the test in October of his or her junior year, are at least one-quarter Hispanic or Latino, achieve the minimum required PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, and earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the middle of junior year are eligible.
