District 211 Schools Extend Media Center Hours for AP Preparation

Starting this week, District 211 schools have extended media center hours and special studying sessions to help students prepare for Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Palatine, Schaumburg Girls’ Volleyball Teams to Compete for Annual ‘Spike Out Cancer’ Event

The girls volleyball programs from Palatine High School and Schaumburg High School are teaming up to raise funds in the fight against cancer in the community. The two schools will be competing in the PHS Girls’ Volleyball program’s 4th annual fundraising game for this year’s Spike Out Cancer event, hosted by the Pirates at Palatine High School, 1111 N. Rohlwing Road, on Oct. 6. The match will be dedicated to all the men and women who have been affected by cancer with hopes that the devastating disease will one day be cured. 109 District 211 Students Earn Certified Nursing Assistant Credentials

Students in District 211’s Certified Nursing Assistant Program have recently earned credentials that can help start their careers. A total of 109 District 211 students, including 65 from Conant, Hoffman, and Schaumburg High Schools and 44 from Palatine and Fremd High Schools, passed the state exam to become Certified Nursing Assistants. “The health care pathway that we have in Township High School District 211 has grown over the last five years,” said John Reyes, science teacher at Conant High School. “Since it's inception in 2012, we have produced more than 400 certified nursing assistants. National School Breakfast Week helps encourage and educate students about why they shouldn’t skip what is considered the most important meal of the day. For many students in the country, including some in District 211, access to a proper breakfast isn’t always possible. That is why District 211 participated in National School Breakfast Week, which promotes the importance of breakfast for students. This year, all five high schools served breakfast during lunch on Wednesday, March 9. 37 District 211 Students Named 2016 Finalists in National Merit Scholarship Competition

Township High School District 211 has 37 students that were named finalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Competition. Judges will determine winners based on which finalists have the strongest combination of academic skills and achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. District 211 Jazz Bands Find Success at Northshore Jazz Festival

District 211 bands were well represented at a recent jazz festival. The Fremd High School Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and Jazz Lab Band recently performed at the 39th Annual North Shore Jazz Festival at Glenbrook South High School. Additionally, top jazz bands from Palatine, Conant, and Schaumburg High Schools received “Division 1/Superior” ratings. “We are very proud of our three ensembles that performed at the Northshore Jazz Festival,” said Matthew Moore, band director at Fremd High School. “The students in our Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band, and Jazz Combo worked hard to prepare a wide variety of jazz music and styles.” ...

To stress the importance of eating a well-balanced breakfast, four District 211 schools participated in an event that offers a free meal to students.
