D211 Post: Medal of Honor Recipient Speaks to SHS Students

            Students at Schaumburg High School concluded a week of recognizing U.S. military veterans with a presentation by Medal of Honor recipient Allen J. Lynch who was introduced by fellow Viet Nam veteran and retired Cook County Judge John Tourtelot.             Lynch opened the presentation by telling the students about his childhood.  He spoke of being bullied through most of his early education and how it affected him.  Lynch said that he hoped discussion of being bullied would serve two purposes.   &nb...

District 211 Students Honored Veterans on Veterans Day

Schools in District 211 honored and recognized Veterans Day in many unique ways. Celebrations ranged from assemblies, to musical performances, letter writing, hallway decorations and giving thanks to local veterans. At Fremd High School, everyone was encouraged to participate in a Veterans Week Fundraising Competition the week of Nov. 7 – Nov. 11. Second period classes competed to raise the most money for the Soldier Project – Chicago Chapter, an organization aimed at healing the hidden wounds of combat and aiding soldiers in their return to civilian life. Local Veterans Invited to Fremd High School for Honor Assembly Taking Place on Veteran’s Day

Fremd High School is inviting local veterans to attend its Honor Assembly on Nov. 11. Students and staff at FHS will celebrate Veteran’s Day by personally thanking local veterans for their commitment and sacrifice to all Americans. The celebration will begin at 1:45. All veterans will enjoy a seat of honor as they are welcomed and thanked by teachers, students, and staff. There will be a student speaker, a veteran speaker and music provided by the FHS Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Singers.
