Palatine High School Senior Recognition Performance Marks Final Concert for Band Director After 33 Years

At the final performance of the school year, band students at Palatine High School celebrated first and last experiences they have shared together throughout the years, including a bittersweet moment for their band director. The Senior Recognition Band Concert entitled "Firsts and Lasts" took place on May 8, at 7:30 p.m. The Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Percussion Ensembles performed, 36 seniors were recognized for devoting four years to the program, Tage Larsen of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was the guest performer, and Band Director Raeleen Horn conducted her final concert after 33 years at Palatine High School before retirement. ...

While guests attended a tour of festive decorations at the White House, a popular spectacle each holiday season in Washington D.C., students in Palatine High School’s band received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to personally add a touch of holiday cheer to the event through music. Six students in Palatine High School’s Brass Ensemble were honored to play at the White House during the White House Holiday Open House on Dec. 15. To get the new school year off on the right foot, the Palatine High School Marching Band was featured on the CBS Chicago Channel 2 morning news show on Aug. 22 with host Vince Gerasole. Coming off of a busy band camp week and preparing for the first day of school, the band showed Chicagoland what it’s like being part of the PHS marching band. “When students first found out, the buzz was how great it would be,” said Raeleen Horn, band director at Palatine High School. “They were very excited and interested. Upcoming PHS Senior Recognition Band Concert

For many Palatine High School senior band members, the final concert is not only an exciting event, but also a bittersweet reminder that their time as high school students is coming to an end. This year’s concert, which takes place on May 9 – 7:30 p.m. in the Altergott Auditorium at PHS, is titled “To Heal a Nation¬—Senior Recognition Band Concert,” and features narrator Orion Samuelson, long-time WGN-Radio host. The Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Percussion Ensembles will perform at the concert.
