39 District 211 Students are National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists for 2016

District 211 Schools Participate in National School Breakfast Week

National School Breakfast Week helps encourage and educate students about why they shouldn’t skip what is considered the most important meal of the day. For many students in the country, including some in District 211, access to a proper breakfast isn’t always possible. That is why District 211 is participating in National School Breakfast Week, which runs from March 2 through March 6 and promotes the importance of breakfast to students. District 211 Students Prepare for Upcoming Annual Honors Orchestra Concert

Some of the most advanced District 211 band and orchestra students will showcase their talents during a concert in front of the community. This year’s District 211 Honors Orchestra Concert will be held at Fremd High School on Feb. 14. The show starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the community. Band and orchestra students District-wide will be part of the performance. The orchestra will play music of Hindemith, Mendelssohn, and Copeland. District 211 Student Digital Democracy Committee Creates Action Plans for Future

Last year, several District 211 students from each high school served on a Digital Democracy Committee, which created a Student Declaration for Acceptable Use to generate awareness and develop expectations for best practices and behavior while using technology both in and outside of the classroom. Fremd High School Earns 2014 Energy Star Award

Fremd High School has earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star Certification for its building. Fremd joins Palatine, Conant, and Schaumburg High Schools, which received the award earlier this year. Only five schools earned the award in Illinois, and four are in District 211. “Earning Energy Star Certification for a building is a major accomplishment,” said Reece Thome, energy manager at District 211. “The award signifies a facility that uses significantly less energy, saves money, and helps protect the environment by generating fewer greenhouse gas emissions when compared to other buildings.” To earn the award, a ...
